What is Guillain Barre Syndrome?

Ever heard of Guillain Barre Syndrome?

One of Robert’s nephews is doing the Great Barrier Reef Challenge to raise money. Kai, Rich, Macca and Bluey are setting out to complete the Steve Moneghetti Marathon a tough feat for most runners. But for these guys whose running experience has consisted of one 14km City2Surf run they really are setting themselves an almighty challenge and all for a great cause. Let’s make a difference and support these courageous (borderline crazy) men.

As Nick said: “In 60 days I’ll be taking on a marathon through the sand dunes, rainforests and mountains of Port Douglas. This 42.195 km challenge in the heat, will be raising money for Guillain Barre Syndrome – a condition in which a person’s nerves are attacked by the body’s own immune system. The furthest any of us have run is 16 km’s… It should be interesting to say the least. ”

Guillain Barre pronounced (Ghee-lan Barré) is an acute disorder of the peripheral nerves, the immune system starts attacking itself, causing weakness and paralysis of the limbs. Guillain Barre Syndrome can turn your life upside down, it can happen to anyone, at any age and at any time with no cure. We are here to listen to individual journey’s, provide information and up to date research, support those suffering from GBS and their families financially and emotionally improving their quality of your life and help get those affected back to their normal self as soon as possible.
